School Notes 7th December, 2018

Gaelfhíseán na Bliana

Congratulations to all students who were part of our Gaelfhíseán na Bliana entry. Our school were winners of the Longford section of this nationwide competition organised as part of the Bliain na Gaeilge celebrations. Yesterday we welcomed Seán Ó Murchadha from Conradh na Gaeilge who presented our students with a cheque for €1000! Maith sibh go léir!

U19 and U16 Basketball

Hard luck to our u19 and u16 boys basketball teams who lost their games yesterday when they travelled to Kilbeggan. Great sportmenship was showed by all the lads and it’s great to see so much interest in basketball in our school.

Congratulations also to Tommie Cunningham on winning First Prize in the 14 to 17 year old category. Tommie’s poster will now be entered for Chapter Level. We wish to thank Marie Scanlon and all the staff at Granard Credit Union and happy spending to all our winners.

Well done to all!

Gaelbhratach

Míle buíochas le Edel ó @GaelLinn who visited our school yesterday to speak to our Gaelbhratach committee about the events they have planned for the coming year. We are currently working towards our second Gaelbhratach award, which recognises schools for their efforts in promoting Irish language and culture. Well done to all students who have volunteered to be part of our committee this year.

ESB through the Skills at Work

Today was the beginning of another year of partnership with the ESB through the Skills at Work programme. Our school has been privileged to be in partnership with the local ESB office in Longford for the past six years. Through this programme 5th Year students have the opportunity to engage with representatives from both the skills at work programme and employees of ESB at various workshops including cv preparation and mock interviews, site visits and A Day in the Life presentation. The students gain so much from this partnership and we are looking forward to another successful year!

Senior Boys Football

Hard luck to our senior boys football team who were defeated by Athboy last week. There was very little between the two teams and the weather conditions made for a very difficult game. There was some excellent individual performances but unfortunately it’s just wasn’t our day.
