School Notes – 31st January, 2020

Leaving Certificate students from Ardscoil Phadraig enjoyed a talk from Maynooth University and AIT this week.

Maynooth University and AIT Visit

Many thanks to Kay Mitchell, Schools Liaison Officer in Maynooth University and Daniel Seery from Athlone Institute of Technology who visited the school recently. Kay provided students with an insight into the wide array of third-level options available in Maynooth University while Daniel provided students and parents with a reminder of key dates to be mindful of over the coming months as well as some very useful tips to help ease the transition from second-level schools to third-level education.

Second Year Materials Technology Wood

Well done to our 2nd Year Materials Technology Wood students who have recently completed their latest assignment under the guidance of Ms. Mulligan. Students have produced some fantastic pieces of work throughout a task which allowed them to continue to develop their problem solving, design and practical skills.

BT Young Scientist

As this year’s BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition concludes, we congratulate Sebastian and Michael on the fantastic manner in which they have represented our school over the last few days. They have impressed hundreds of visitors to their stand with their knowledge, research and analysis of the impact of technology on student learning and we have no doubt that their work will form the basis of further research in this area in the years ahead. Huge thank you to Ms. Magan for her dedication over the last number of months in facilitating the boys entry and we also thank Ms. Reynolds and Ms. Kelly for their support in the RDS this week. We are already looking forward to next year’s event!

Réalta agus Gaolta

Huge well done to our talented students Dearbhaila and Aoibhinn Lynch and their brothers Patrick and Cormac who performed brilliantly on last weekend’s episode of Réalta agus Gaolta on TG4. Already the recipients of numerous national awards, we have no doubt that this won’t be the last time Dearbhaila, Aoibhinn, Patrick and Cormac appear on our TV screens. Maith sibh go léir!

Transition Year students from Ardscoil Phadraig enjoyed a brilliant trip to Jump Lanes Trampoline Park recently.

Jump Lanes

Transition Year students enjoyed a brilliant trip to Jump Lanes Trampoline Park recently. As well as the 10 lane trampoline area, the group also enjoyed soccer pool and ice-skating during what was one of their most enjoyable day trips so far. Thank you to Ms. Mc Loughlin and Mr. Doyle for accompanying the group.

2nd Year Football

Hard luck to our 2nd year boy’s football team who were defeated on Thursday to a strong Oldcastle team of Co. Meath. While the boys put forward a united front their opposition was too strong on the day. A well done to Mihael Lovric who had an outstanding game today as goalkeeper. Good luck to our First year boys who take on Oakland’s Community College in the Leinster Shield Final next Thursday.

Girls’ Basketball

Congratulations to our First year girls’ basketball team who won their game last week by 18 points to 9 against Ballymahon Vocational School. Unfortunately, however, after a battle our Second year girls lost their game by a narrow 2 point margin to Ballymahon. Well done to each team for performances on the day.
