School Notes – 27th October, 2017

Credit Union Quiz

Well done to Ms Brady and the first and second year teams who took part in a quiz run by Granard Credit Union last Thursday night. Congratulations to Haidee Temple, Maria Ledwith, Eric Hopkins and Ben Creegan who qualified for the next round which will take place in Athlone in November.

Sign Language

Transition Year students are currently taking part in a sign language course and are learning many new skills in this area. Well done to all.

Fright Fest

Our TY students recently produced some Halloween photography which is set to be displayed during Ardagh Fright Fest 2017. The event runs from 28th October to 4th November in Ardagh Heritage Centre and is open to the public.

An Triail

Sixth Year Higher Level Irish students travelled to the Dean Crowe Theatre, Athlone on Friday last to watch the Fibín Teo production of An Triail. Bhain gach duine sár-taitneamh as an dráma agus tá a fhios againn go gcabhróidh an turas go mór linn i scrúdú na hArdteiste.

TY Half Zips

The TY students look very smart in their half zips which were presented to them by John Maguire. We appreciate his continued support of the school.

Project Maths

We would like to remind parents that Project Maths classes for parents will resume in the coming weeks in the Adult Education Centre, Granard. All parents are welcome to attend and no prior Project Maths knowledge is required. These classes are free of charge and will provide you with the skills necessary to help your child with their homework/study. The feedback from those who attended last year has been very positive and parents are looking forward to returning this year. For further information please contact Ms Reilly at 043/6686209 or email

Shoe Box Appeal

We are still collecting gifts and shoeboxes for the Team Hope Christmas Shoe Box Appeal. It is hoped that students can donate some simple Christmas gifts to the school and we will fill as many shoe boxes as we can. Students are also welcome to fill a box themselves if they so wish. Thank you for your continued support.

Open Night

Enrolment is now open for 2017. We would like to take this opportunity to invite all prospective fifth and sixth class students, with their parents/guardians to attend our school open night, which will take place on Thursday 9th of November from 7pm to 9pm. Those in attendance will meet our teachers displaying their specialist subjects, giving a taste of all that Ardscoil Phádraig has to offer. The night will also feature a short presentation by the school principal. We hope to see you there.

Pilgrimage to Knock

The annual pilgrimage to Knock Shrine for first year students takes place on Thursday, October 26th. The day will involve a tour of the shrine and a guided tour of Knock Museum, finishing with the holy celebration of mass in the Church of the Apparitions, celebrated by Fr Simon Cadam. Thanks to Ms Reilly for organising the trip.

Maths Week

There has been great excitement in the school all week as students took part in various maths activities organised by the Maths Department to celebrate Maths week. See next week’s notes for full report.
