School Notes – 26th January, 2018

Young Scientist

Well done to our TY students Brad Flynn and Patrick Reilly who represented the school with their teacher Mr. Domican, at the Young Scientist Exhibition in the RDS last week. Their project, entitled ‘Bird Boxes; Are They of Any Benefit?’ is an investigation into the GLAS scheme which focuses on the rural environment, particularly on the preservation of various habitats and species, mitigating climate change and improving water quality. We were very proud to see them progress so far in the competition and hope they enjoyed the experience.

Study Skills

On Wednesday 24th January, we will welcome Michael Bond back to the school to deliver workshops to our Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate students. The workshops will focus on study skills and have always proven to be very beneficial to our students.

Assessment Morning

We were delighted to welcome so many sixth class students to the school last Saturday for their assessment morning. We are looking forward to you joining us in September.

Project Maths for Parents

Project Maths classes for parents will resume from the end of this month. This is a great opportunity for parents to equip themselves to help their child with their Maths homework. For further information, please contact Ms Reilly.

Ladies Football

Our senior girls played a tough Leinster quarter final against a very strong Tullamore side last week. The girls worked hard throughout the game but were beaten by a more experienced side. This is the furthest a girls’ senior team has ever gotten in this competition so it is promising for the future. Our attention now turns to the U16 girls who also play Tullamore college today in the Leinster U16 quarter final. Good luck to all involved.

Parent Teacher Meeting

A parent teacher meeting for second year students took place on Thursday 18th January. Thanks to all who attended.

Mocks Examinations

Third and sixth year students will begin their mock examinations on January 29th. Best wishes to all as they prepare for these important exams.

ESB Partnership

With our school set to take part in the School Business Partnership Scheme yet again this year, LCVP students are busy preparing to welcome a representative from Business in the Community Ireland (BITC). Just like the last few years, ESB Networks will join with our school to develop a partnership between education and business. Students will benefit from presentations, work shadowing, help with interview preparations and lots more. We are very excited to get this up and running again in Ardscoil Phádraig.

Oral Examinations

Junior Cert Irish orals are set to take place this Friday 19th January. We wish all our students the very best of luck with these.
