U16 Girls Football

On Monday last our U16 Girls Football team defeated Athboy CS to advance to the Leinster quarter finals. This was a very exciting game, with twelve goals scored between the teams on the day. The girls got off to a great start with early scores from Cora Murphy, Elle Lynn and Leitizia Sheridan. Despite Athboy coming back strong in the second half, Ardscoil Phadraig showed great spirit and character to maintain their lead to finish the game strong, with a thirteen point margin. The girls showed tremendous work rate with strong performances throughout the field, most notably Funmi Talabi and Leitizia Sheridan in midfield, Cora Murphy up front and Kayla Brennan in defence. Great credit must go to this panel of players for their hardwork and commitment to training and their positive attitudes on and off the field. We look forward to the quarter final against Mean Scoil Gharmann of Wexford on Thursday the 28th of February.

Student Enterprise

The First Year Business Studies students are busy putting the finishing touches on their enterprise reports. We have a variety of innovative businesses this year which include stress balls, creative/custom made cakes, Kendama toys, Medication reminder, Calendar and GAA skills tracker. Keep an eye out for these enterprises and support if you can. County finals coming up in March.

Green Schools

This week we welcomed a guest speaker from Green Schools Ireland to Ardscoil Phadraig. He spoke to our 2nd Year students about Climate Change. Climate change (or global warming), is the process of our planet heating up. The Earth has warmed by an average of 1°C in the last century, and although that might not sound like much, it means big things for people and wildlife around the globe. The 2nd Years learned what the negative effects are on our planet and what we can do as a school community to reduce the effects into the future. We can all make a difference, here are some of the changes/ideas the 2nd years came up with.

· Travel by bus, and get the whole family to do the same

· Walk wherever you can instead of driving

· Get your bike out and go cycling instead of getting in the car

· Plant trees

· Reduce, reuse and recycle

The Green School Committee are working towards achieving the ‘Travel’ flag in 2019. Can you travel to school in a more sustainable way? Can you walk, cycle, car pool, use the bus…

Longford Parkrun

Ardscoil Phadraig are organising for our students to take part in the Longford Parkrun on Saturday 9th March at 9am. We hope to have a good turnout from students and families in this

event and appreciate your support in this matter. Students will need to sign-up for the parkrun on the official website.

Junior Girls Basketball

Our Junior girls played a great game against a very strong team from Wilson’s to win with a score of 32 – 9. The extra effort with training sessions is really starting to pay off for these Ardscoil Phádraig girls. They are holding their own in a division up from last year. May the fine league performances that we have seen so far, continue into the future and allow them to secure a place in the quarter finals. Next match 26th February 2019 against Moate Community School.
