School Notes – 20th September, 2019

Welcome Back

We offer a warm welcome back to all students and staff as we begin another year on our journey. We particularly want to welcome our new first years and students who have transferred from other schools. We are delighted to welcome our many international students who have joined us from Spain, Germany and France. We hope that they will enjoy their experience here as much as all of our international students have in the past.

Staff

We offer a warm welcome to the new staff members that we have gained this academic year, Ms Gilhooley, Ms Farrell, Ms Burke, Ms Sheriff and Ms McGuinness. We know that you will enjoy your days here with us. We also welcome back Ms McGuinness from maternity leave.

Lunch Clubs – Our teachers are in the process of setting up some exciting new activities for our lunch breaks as well as resurrecting some old favourites. We can’t wait to have them up and running in the coming weeks.

Leaving Certificate Results

Congratulations to our Leaving Cert students who received their results. We are very proud of their achievements and wish them all the best as they take continue with their education in university.

Academic Achievement Awards

The annual Longford Westmeath ETB Academic Achievement awards took place recently in Mullingar with Dylan Kiernan and Eimear Corcoran receiving the awards for their results in the Leaving Certificate. Well done to both on this wonderful achievement.

Funmi Talabi, Elle Lynn and Cora Murphy were also members of the Edgeworthstown U15 mixed relay team who were silver medalists this summer

Summer of Sport

A fantastic summer of sport was enjoyed by many of the talented students who returned to Ardscoil Phádraig this September. A special congratulations to Funmi Talabi who completed a clean sweep of national titles for this year when she won gold in the U14 100mCommunity Games National Finals. Funmi, Elle Lynn and Cora Murphy were also members of the Edgeworthstown U15 mixed relay team who were silver medallists. We also congratulate Killian

Reynolds and Jack Cheyne who were crowned All Ireland Rounder’s Champions as members of the Clonbroney Minor Club. We look forward to seeing you all back in the Ardscoil Phádraig colours this year.

French Exchange

Katelyn Farrell, 3rd Year, was the recipient of a French exchange scholarship which offered her the fantastic opportunity of spending six weeks of her summer break with Jeanne Le Bouhart and her family in Brittany, attending school and experiencing French language and culture.

Jeanne has now come to Ardscoil Phádraig for her very own exchange. We extend a warm welcome to Jeanne and our other international students and wish you a memorable experience in Ardscoil Phádraig.

Transition Year Coláiste Naomh Éinne

Very best wishes to Kayanna Greene who, last year, was one of just thirty students nationwide to have been selected for the Island Scholarship Scheme. This September Kayanna begins Transition Year as a student of Coláiste Naomh Éinne, on the Aran Island of Inis Mór where she will complete her studies through Irish. This is a fantastic opportunity for Kayanna and we have no doubt that she will be a very popular member of the Inis Mór Island community, just as she was in Ardscoil Phádraig. Go n-éirían t-ádh leat!

Clubs and Societies’ event took place this September offering all students the opportunity of signing up to the wide range of extra-curricular activities available in Ardscoil Phádraig

Clubs and Societies

A hugely successful ‘Clubs and Societies’ event took place last Wednesday offering all students the opportunity of signing up to the wide range of extra-curricular activities available in Ardscoil Phádraig. Many thanks to Ms. Magan for organising the event.

Transition Year students who went for an action packed day at Bay Sports Athlone

Bay Sports

Ardscoil Phadraig TY’s had the pleasure of taking part in Bay Sports in Athlone. It was an action packed day with kayaking and paddle boarding in the morning, and then spending the afternoon on the waterpark which comprises of some of the most amazing inflatable waterslides in Ireland. A great way to start the year! Roll on the next activity.
