School Notes – 17th January, 2020

Welcome Back and Thank You

Welcome back to all staff and students who returned to school this week to begin another productive term in Ardscoil Phádraig. As the Christmas season ends we extend a special word of thanks to our 6th Year students who organised a very enjoyable Christmas Jumper Day and Bake Sale prior to the Christmas break. Thanks to the generosity and support of our entire student population the fantastic sum of €770 was raised which will be donated to the Dóchas Cancer Support Centre, as we remember all friends of Ardscoil Phádraig who inspire us with the courageous manner in which they are or have battled illness in recent times. A huge well done to all students involved in organising this initiative for a wonderful cause which is close to the hearts of so many people.

BT Young Scientist

Very best wishes to Transition Year students Sebastian Faller and Michael Tierney Stakem as they represent us at the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition which takes place in the RDS this week. We wish the boys and their teacher Ms. Magan every success as they showcase their project entitled ‘Does Technology Affect Learning?’ over the coming days. We have no doubt that they will be fantastic ambassadors for Ardscoil Phádraig on the national stage.

St. Vincent de Paul Food Appeal

We wish to extend a huge thank you to all who contributed to this year’s St. Vincent de Paul Food Appeal. We were delighted to present Pat Fox, representing our local SVP branch, with the food items donated by members of our school community. Well done to our 6th Year students, Ms. Kelly and Mr. Gerety who facilitated this fantastic initiative which will have a massive impact on the lives of numerous members of our local community this Christmas. Doing what we can to support those around us – that’s what Christmas is all about.

Boda Borg

This week our Transition Year students went to Boda Borg in Lough Key Forest Park county Roscommon for their activity. The students had a great time trying to solve the puzzles and games. A special thank you is extended to Ms. Mc Loughlin and Ms. Donohue for accompanying the students on their trip.

Incoming First Years

We are looking forward to meeting all our incoming first years again on Saturday 25th January for their Assessment Morning.

Mock Exams

Timetables for Mock examinations have now been issued. They will take place from Monday 3rd February to Friday 14th February. These examinations provide students with an opportunity to experience what the actual examinations will be like in June. Students will gain valuable experience in managing their time, planning and organising their answers and makes them aware of the work and commitment necessary to do themselves justice in the state examinations in June.
