Rayse the Game Study Skills and Motivational Workshop

Huge thank you to Ray Langan who delivered his brilliant Rayse the Game Study Skills and Motivational Workshop to Junior and Leaving Certificate students today. Rays energetic and thought-provoking discussions as well as his study and well-being tips will no doubt greatly benefit all students in their exam preparation throughout the coming months.

Ardscoil Phádraig’s Senior Boys' Football team booked their place in the North Leinster Shield Final this week.

Senior Boys’ Football

Great end to a very successful week of sport in Ardscoil Phádraig as our Senior Boys’ Football team booked their place in the North Leinster Shield Final today. The lads emerged victorious over Columba College Killucan on a final score line of 2-11 to 1-8. Strong performances from Jack D’Arcy, Ben Creegan, Padraig Sheridan and James Kiernan allowed Ardscoil Phádraig to gradually take control of the game in what was an excellent all-round team performance. Well done to all players and their mentors Mr. Domican, Mr. Breslin and Ms. Cheevers.

Green Schools

Since Christmas there has been great achievements in our Green School’s committee. We have bought a poly tunnel, established a vegetable patch and a composting area in order to try to gain the Bio-Diversity Flag.

Student Enterprise

Well done to Ms. McLoughlin’s First Year Business Studies students who held their first Mini Company sales event recently. As part of their Enterprise Programme students have created a business plan and established their own Mini Companies which are outlined below. We look forward to tracking their progress throughout the year but following the success of today’s event there is no doubt that there are plenty of fantastic young entrepreneurs amongst us.

Longford AC Awards Ceremony

Congratulations to 3rd Year student Funmi Talabi who was recognised at the Longford AC Awards Ceremony for her outstanding achievements in athletics throughout 2019. Funmi not only captured the All Ireland Minor Girls 100m Schools title for Ardscoil Phádraig last year but also added the U15 100m Gold for Longford AC at the National Juvenile Outdoor Championship and an array of accolades at Connacht level to her name in what was a hugely successful year on the track. Funmi is pictured with her sister Yemi who was also honoured for her achievements at provincial, national and international level. Well-deserved recognition for two supremely talented athletes who will no doubt ensure that the Talabi name continues to be a force to be reckoned with in Irish Athletics throughout the coming years.

Ardscoil Phádraig’s First Year boys who played Oakland’s Community College in North Leinster Shield Final.

First Year Boys’ Football

Commiserations to our First Year boys who, despite clocking up the brilliant tally of 9-8, were eventually defeated by Oakland’s Community College in today’s North Leinster Shield Final. The lads showed great determination throughout and were very unlucky not to take the spoils today but we have no doubt that this won’t be their last final appearance in an Ardscoil Phádraig jersey. Our Transition Year group also attended today’s final, gathering Stats from the game which they will analyse as part of their GAA Future Leaders Programme. Many thanks to Mr. Mulvey, Ms. Donohoe, Mr. Doyle and Ms. Magan for their work with both groups.

Nadine becomes Captain of Longford U14

Congratulations to Second Year student Nadine Smith Mostrim GAA who has recently been appointed captain of the Longford Ladies U14 Football squad. A gifted musician, Nadine is also an integral member of our U16 and Senior Ladies teams in Ardscoil Phádraig as well as excelling in her academic endeavors and we have no doubt that she will be a fantastic leader as the team commence their Leinster campaign in the coming weeks. We wish Nadine and all other students representing our inter-county teams the very best of luck as their respective competitions begin over the coming months.

Girls’ Basketball

Well done to our First and Second Year girls’ basketball teams who both continued their winning ways with victories over Wilson’s Hospital School, Multyfarnham. Our Second Years ran out convincing winners on a final score line of 18-4 while our First Years had four points to spare at the final buzzer following a closer encounter. We wish the girls continued success as they progress through their groups under the guidance of Ms. Rushe, Ms. Conlon and Assistant Coach Wasewo Diakanda.

This talented duo have played leading roles in our recent school productions and we have no doubt that they will bring the house down as they perform with Evolution Stage School and St Mel’s Musical Society this week in what promises to be a fantastic show.
