School Notes – 13th October, 2017

Ardscoil Phádraig School Notes 13 October 2017

Open Night

Enrolment is now open for 2018. We would like to take this opportunity to invite all prospective fifth and sixth class students, with their parents/guardians to attend our school open night, which will take place on Thursday 9th of November from 7pm to 9pm. Those in attendance will meet our teachers displaying their specialist subjects, giving a taste of all that Ardscoil Phádraig has to offer. The night will also feature a short presentation by the school principal. We hope to see you there.

Fundraising

The staff in our ASD unit recently organised a bag packing fundraiser in Dunnes Stores and were delighted to raise the sum of €1,281. They would like to say thank you to all who took part and to all who contributed on the day. The money will be put to good use in the new unit.

Art Trip

On Thursday last, Senior Cycle Art students, accompanied by Ms. Cooney, visited two exhibitions in Longford. Their first stop was the Engage exhibition in Providers old building, where they were given a guided tour by Gary Robinson and Gordon Farrell. The exhibition entitled “Memory has a Pulse” shows the work of three very talented artists, Sean Cotter, Thomas Brezing and Gary Robinson. The students were amazed by the art installations, paintings and prints from the artists and could see the value of their visit for their art appreciation studies. They would like to thank Gary Robinson for his very informative talk on the exhibition. Next stop was The Backstage Theatre where they viewed the fabulous work of three Longford artists, Phil Atkinson, Shelley Corcoran and Angelika Florkiewicz. This exhibition is entitled “Three Thoughts, One Breath” and the students were very appreciative to get the chance to see it. A big thank you to Bernie for welcoming us to The Backstage Art Gallery and to Ms. Cooney for organising the Trip.

TY News

The TY photography programme with Shelley Corcoran continued this week. Students are enjoying the programme and their skills are increasing every week. Students are also taking part in a course of kick-boxing classes, which they are enjoying immensely.

Football Blitz

First year boys took part in a football blitz in Clonguish on Friday of last week. Playing four matches each, students enjoyed the day and are looking forward to the next blitz which is set to take place Wednesday 25th October in Pearse Park. Thanks to Mr Breslin and Ms Magan.

Shoe Box Appeal

We would like to remind readers of Team Hope Christmas Shoe Box Appeal yet again. Ms McGuinness is asking our students to donate some simple Christmas gifts to the school and we will fill as many shoe boxes as we can. Students are also welcome to fill a box themselves if they so wish. These gifts will help bring Christmas to less fortunate people around the world.

Basketball

A new girl’s basketball team was formed last week. It was great to see such large numbers at training which is taking place every Friday after school. Thanks to Ms Reynolds, Ms Quinn, Ms Doyle and Ms Rushe for organising this.
