School Notes 12th October, 2018

Welcome Back

We offer a warm welcome back to all students and staff as we begin another year on our journey. We particularly want to welcome our new first years and students who have transferred from other schools. We are delighted to welcome the many international students who have joined us from Spain, Germany and France. We hope that they will enjoy their experience here. We also give a warm welcome to the new teachers Ms Conlon and Ms McDonald.

Aisling Festival – We are thrilled to have been selected by the Aisling Children’s Arts Festival committee to be involved in a media project with the Longford Leader. This is a great opportunity to see how our local newspaper is put together and to practice our journalistic skills.

Evening Study – Our after-school study programme has recommenced and takes place from 4pm to 5.30pm each Monday to Thursday.

Academic Achievement Awards – The annual Longford Westmeath ETB Academic Achievement awards took place in Mullingar lately, with Evan Tully and Laura Cunningham receiving the awards for their excellent results in the Leaving Certificate. Well done to both on this wonderful achievement. We wish them both the very best as they now begin their college career.

Junior Certificate Results – Congratulations to our TY and fifth year students who received their Junior Certificate results recently. These great results are testament to the wonderful students we have here at Ardscoil Phádraig. We are very proud of their achievements and wish them all the best in their studies for Leaving Certificate.

School Completion

We are delighted to welcome back Helen Maguire from School Completion. Over the past number of years, Helen has carried out huge work for our school in conjunction with Shane Crossan.

Best Wishes

We would like to wish Ms Quinn all the very best in her new role in St Columba College, Killucan. She will be missed here at the school. We also wish to say good luck to Mr Domican

who has been seconded to the Department of Education for this academic year. We look forward to welcoming him back next year.

First Year Retreat

First year students have taken part in a retreat recently at our school, facilitated by the non-denominational group An Tobar Nua. The enjoyable retreat has helped our students explore themes such as bullying, social media, resilience, and positive mental health, using music, games, guided reflection, and personal stories. These topics are highly relevant to the chal-lenges and pressures that our youth are dealing with daily, so this was a hugely valuable day for them, and one which they all really enjoyed.

Ladies Football

The football season has also begun at Ardscoil Phadraig with the u16 ladies team enjoying a well-deserved victory over Ballymahon Vocational School in the opening round of the junior competition. It was a spirited performance from all members of the team with strong perfor-mances all over the pitch. The hard work at training is paying off and we look forward to the next round against Castlepollard. Our senior ladies team is also out this week in their opening fixture with an away game against Ballymahon. Best of luck girls and keep up the good work.
