School Notes – 10th May, 2019

Achill Adventure Centre

A tired group of seventy students returned to Granard on Wednesday evening following a fantastic three day trip to Achill. There they enjoyed rock climbing, bog jumping, surfing and lots of other activities. Staff of Achill Adventure Centre were very complimentary of our student’s willingness and ability to take on any task or activity presented to them over the last few days and for this the group deserves great credit. Many thanks to Ms. Magan, Ms. Conlon, Mr. Breslin and Mr. Byrne for facilitating such a brilliant trip, one that we’re sure will be spoken about for a long time to come!

Thank you to local company Kiernan Milling for their generous sponsorship towards new gear for our GAA teams at Ardscoil Phadraig. Pictured is Garreth Carroll, Kiernan Milling Business Manager with Ms. Mulligan and representatives from the various sports teams.

Kiernan Milling Sponsorship

We would like to say a huge thank you to local company Kiernan Milling for their generous sponsorship towards new gear for our GAA teams. Garreth Carroll, Kiernan Milling Business Manager, visited us on Wednesday to see representatives of our teams in their new gear. Ms. Mulligan also deserves great credit for the effort she has put into undertaking such a massive initiative to ensure all our GAA teams are resplendent in their new gear. Great patience and dedication was necessary throughout the initiative and as we see a very successful result was achieved. Many thanks from us all.

Huge congratulations to third year student Kayanna Greene who is one of just thirty students nationwide to have been selected for the Island Scholarship Scheme.

Island Scholarship Scheme

Huge congratulations to third year student Kayanna Greene who is one of just thirty students nationwide to have been selected for the Island Scholarship Scheme. Kayanna will be living on the Aran Island of Inis Mór for the 2019/20 academic year, as a student of Coláiste Naomh Éinne, where she will complete her studies through Irish. While this is a fantastic opportunity for Kayanna, we equally have no doubt that her abilities in the Irish language, traditional music and sport, as well as her pleasant demeanour, will make her a very popular addition to the Inis Mór Island community.

Transition Year Driving Lessons

On Wednesday our Transition Year students had driving lessons with instructors from the Hynes Quinn Motoring School. The students learnt about how to apply for the Theory Test, all about maintaining your own car and road safety. The students also got the opportunity to practice their driving in the motoring school cars while being taught about steering, the gears and how to use the different features of the car. The students had a great time, and a special thanks to Noel, James and Ron for the day.

Darkness into Light

We are encouraging all our students and families to participate in the Darkness into Light walk in Longford on Saturday morning.
