Green Schools Committee Members after the school was awarded the Travel Flag for Green Schools

Green Schools

On Tuesday morning we welcomed a representative from Green Schools Ireland to conduct a Green Schools Audit. We are delighted to have been awarded our Travel Flag. Thanks to all the students who put in the extra effort to reduce our carbon footprint and participated in our schools travel challenge. There has been an improvement overall in the amount of students who braved the adverse weather conditions and walked to school. In addition we noticed an improvement in the amount of people carpooling which is a good sign. Also there were more students taking the bus this morning which would suggest that they made the extra effort to get up early in order to make it to the bus stop on time!! We have also renewed our Litter & Waste, Water and Energy flags. There will be a National Awards ceremony in May when we will be awarded our new Travel flag. The travel flag is a symbol of our commitment to promoting sustainable modes of transport to and from school. Congratulations to all our Green Schools Committee Members and TY students who work hard to promote Green Schools and were very proactive during the Travel Challenge week.

Staff and students from Ardscoil Phadraig who took part in the Longford Park Run

Park Run

It was great to see so many students and teachers out at the Park Run last Saturday morning. Well done to all who showed up on the day and a special word of thanks to Ms. McLoughlin for organising this event.

Girls Football

Well done to the first year girls’ football team who drew against Cnoc Mhuire on Tuesday. In very windy conditions the girls played a great game. Good luck in your next match girls!

Garda Youth Awards

Huge congratulation to our very own Tommie Cunningham who received an award recently at the Garda Youth Awards. The community safety award was awarded to Tommie in recognition for his work in creating increased awareness around drugs and alcohol abuse as part of the Granard youth group. Tommie not only organised a 6-week programme of events to do so, but also hosted many guest speakers and arranged practical art projects to help drive home the message. Speaking on the night Ciaran Mullooly said: “He was able to fully research the topics and arrange a number of guest speakers to come in. These people included those who battle addictions themselves and the problems associated with addiction.”

Seachtain na Gaeilge

A great week at Ardscoil Phádraig with Seachtain na Gaeilge. Shannon Darcy came away as the overall winner in our 2nd year Bake Off competition, with last year’s champion Ryan Reilly in a close second. Our sixth years enjoyed “Maidin Ghaeilge” where they shared tea and cúpla focal ahead of their upcoming LC oral examination. Comhghairdeas to all the winners of Tuesdays Seachtain na Gaeilge activities. First year students Enda, Aoibhinn, Gemma, Jessica, Courtney and Nadine were quickest off the mark in the search for the hidden seanfhocail while our winning teams in the 5th Year Tráth na gCeist consisted of Patrick, Fiona, Seán, Rokas, Michael, Joey, Richard and Shane. Maith sibh go léir
